AI integrations
Use Kanbanote with AI
Let your assistant read your boards, add tasks and move work forward through Kanbanote's MCP server.
Connect from your AI app using OAuth. Every Kanbanote account, free or premium, can use the integration. Your AI app's account and workspace settings determine whether custom MCP connections are available.
Connect your assistant
MCP gives your assistant tools for Kanbanote. Add the server URL in your AI app, sign in to Kanbanote and approve the permissions shown on the consent page.
Start the connection in your AI app. Kanbanote will always show which client is requesting access before you approve it.
Sign in to Kanbanote to manage connected apps.
ChatGPT
- Open Plugins in ChatGPT and choose the plus button or Add custom MCP server.
- Paste the MCP server URL above and select OAuth authentication. Use public-client CIMD (
none) or automatic registration; leave static client credentials empty. - Create or install the connection, then follow the Kanbanote sign-in and consent steps.
- Enable Kanbanote in the conversation where you want to use it.
Add the connection in ChatGPT on the web. Workspace permissions and security restrictions, including Lockdown, apply. Follow the official ChatGPT MCP instructions for your account.
Claude
- Open Customize > Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Give the connector a name and paste the MCP server URL above. Continue with OAuth sign-in and choose Register automatically if you need to choose an OAuth client.
- Connect the integration and complete Kanbanote's OAuth sign-in and consent steps.
Available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Free users can add one custom connector. On Team, an Owner or Primary Owner must add it first in Organization settings > Connectors. Enterprise also permits custom roles with Manage access to Libraries. Members then connect individually. See Claude's custom connector guide.
Claude Code
Register the remote server in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http kanbanote https://beta.kanbanote.com/mcp
In Claude Code, run /mcp, select Kanbanote and authenticate in the browser. See the Claude Code MCP documentation.
Codex
Register Kanbanote with the Codex CLI, then sign in:
codex mcp add kanbanote --url https://beta.kanbanote.com/mcp
codex mcp login kanbanote
Complete the browser sign-in and consent flow. Start a new Codex session if the tools do not appear in the current one.
See the official Codex MCP setup instructions for supported clients and configuration options.
Add the optional Kanbanote skill
The MCP connection works on its own. The skill is a small set of instructions that helps an assistant choose boards, find Doing and Done lists, and handle task workflows consistently. It does not create a connection or contain a credential.
Codex: extract the ZIP so the file is at ~/.agents/skills/kanbanote/SKILL.md. Restart Codex or start a new session to discover the skill, then ask it to use $kanbanote.
Claude Code: extract the ZIP so the file is at ~/.claude/skills/kanbanote/SKILL.md. Start a new session and invoke /kanbanote, or ask for a Kanbanote task workflow.
The ~ folder is your user home directory. If downloading the raw file, create the kanbanote folder yourself. Keep the filename SKILL.md. You still need the OAuth MCP connection above.
Try a task
- “Show my Doing tasks.”
- “Add a task called Prepare the launch checklist.”
- “Move Prepare the launch checklist to Review.”
- “Mark Prepare the launch checklist done.”
The integration can discover boards and lists, read task titles and plain-text content, create tasks, rename tasks, move tasks and complete tasks. It cannot delete tasks, edit existing task bodies, or administer boards and lists.
If you have several boards, specify one or let your assistant ask. New tasks default to a uniquely named Doing list, and completion uses a uniquely named Done list. If a destination is missing or ambiguous, the assistant needs your choice before changing anything.
Permissions and privacy
The consent page shows the requesting app and its callback destination. Read access lets it view your Kanbanote boards and tasks; write access also lets it create, rename and move tasks. Permissions cover your Kanbanote boards, rather than a selection of individual boards.
Your AI client holds an encrypted Kanbanote credential. Kanbanote decrypts the Evernote credential in memory when handling a request; reusable credentials are not persisted in Kanbanote's database, sessions, caches or logs. A cloud-based AI client may store its credential on its own servers.
This reduces the amount of reusable credential data stored by Kanbanote. It does not make an active server or client immune to compromise.
Connections last up to 30 days. Reconnect from your AI app when a connection expires or Evernote authorization changes. Signing out of the Kanbanote website does not disconnect your AI apps.
